Most Rev. Thomas
was born on 19th October, 1958, at Kizhakkumbhagom in Kerala. After
his primary studies, he entered the Minor Seminary of Tiruvalla in
1974. Subsequently, he joined the Papal Seminary, Pune for his
philosophical and theological studies and was ordained priest on 30th
December, 1985.
After exercising
pastoral ministry in several parishes, he pursued his higher studies
in Rome from 1991 to 1996 and obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law from
the Oriental Institute, Rome. After his return from the Holy See, he
was appointed Chancellor and Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of
Tiruvalla from 1996-1997. On 26th May, 1997, His Holiness Pope John
Paul II nominated him Auxiliary Bishop of Tiruvalla and he was
consecrated on 17th July, 1997. Six years later, on 15th January,
2003, Auxiliary Bishop Thomas was appointed First Bishop of
Muvattupuzha. On 26th March, 2007, he was appointed the 2nd
Metropolitan Archbishop of Tiruvalla. He is presently Secretary of the Malankara Catholic Episcopal Synod.
