About KLM

Kerala Labour Movement (KLM) is a civil society organization registered under the Kerala Charitable Societies Registration Act of 1955 in the year 2004 with the register No. ER 620/04. Kerala Labour Movement is initiated by Labour Commission of Kerala Catholic Bishops Council (KCBC) which is the collective body of 30 catholic bishops in Kerala under Roman Catholic Church. The Kerala Catholic Bishop’s Council established Labour Commission in the year 1979 with aim of organizing the unorganized workers in the state of Kerala and to uplift them from their pathetic conditions in the onset of urbanization and subsequent globalization processes. Now Kerala Labour Movement (KLM) works under the umbrella of Labour Commission of Catholic Bishops Council of Kerala as an effective NGO who caters the developmental needs of the unorganized labourers of the Kerala State.

KLM visualizes a just society where all the labourers enjoy dignity, equity, harmony and fullness of life.

Mission

KLM stands committed for the empowerment of the labour class irrespective of caste, class and religion through social mobilization, decentralized participatory planning, and promotion of good governance, gender justice and environmental sustainability.

Developmental strategies

  • Promotion of community based organizations and systems for the union of the labourers in the local level

  • Networking of the local groups of labourers in the regional and state level fora

  • Promotion of rural microfinance institutions to replace the money lenders

  • Skill enhancement of the labour class to equip them with new technologies and work culture

  • Advocacy and lobbying for the unorganized sections of the workers of the country with all the stakeholders and power centers

  • Documentation and information dissemination with regard to the labour issues and problems with special emphasis on the unorganized workers of the nation
